Granite is a very durable material; it is highly resistant to staining and scratching. It will not be affected by a hot pan placed on its surface and generally will stand up to the rigors of everyday use. This is not to say that granite will not stain or scratch, but over the course of time, given normal use, it should be very resistant to damage. Do to the durability of granite, you can pretty much use it anywhere.

Granite is a low-maintenance product, it needs to be resealed now and then, due to the porousness of the stone. If not it is susceptible to stains, and bacteria.
